The State Family Planning Commission (SFPC) of China has recently concluded a nation-wide family planning and reproductive health survey, i.e., 2001 National FP/RH Survey. As the follow-up of the 1997 National Demographic and Reproductive Health Survey (DRHS), the 2001 survey was carried out in the same sites as the 1997 survey. The questionnaires consists of about 100 items, with focus on the trend of population dynamics in the 1997-2001 period, contraceptive use of Chinese couples of reproductive age, their reproductive health status, their needs for FP/RH services, male participation in family planning practices, and people’s knowledge on and attitude to HIV/AIDS. More than 200,000 people of 346 counties/cities were covered in the survey, and about 50,000 women aged 15-49 interviewed.
In order to further investigate the survey results, to achieve a better understanding of the performance of China’s FP/RH programmes, and thus to improve these programmes, we intend to seek co-operation with international institution, who is interested in China’s population and FP/RH programme.
